Laugh Line Filler

Laugh lines, more formally nasolabial folds, form along the crease between the nose and the corners of the mouth, and they deepen for a combination of reasons: loss of volume in the midface, gradual descent of cheek tissue, and simple repeated muscle movement over time. Dermal filler addresses this by restoring volume in the surrounding area rather than filling the line itself directly, which is why the result from a well-placed filler treatment tends to look like softened structure rather than an obviously "filled" crease. Results from filler in this area are typically visible immediately, with any initial swelling resolving within several days to about a week, and the effect generally lasts several months to a year depending on the specific filler used and how quickly an individual metabolizes it. Because this is a non-surgical treatment, there's essentially no recovery period beyond avoiding strenuous exercise and excess sun exposure for a day or two. The amount and placement of filler is planned around each patient's specific facial anatomy and the depth of the fold being treated, since over-filling this area is one of the more common ways a non-surgical treatment can look unnatural rather than simply refreshed. Filler is often one part of a broader non-surgical plan rather than a standalone treatment, since volume loss in the midface and along the jawline tends to progress together over time. Which areas benefit most from treatment, and in what order, is something best discussed directly during a consultation. More on filler options and how they're typically used is on the dermal fillers page.
